One of the great pluses of performing regular meditation is that it can help you to get better and more restful sleep, and who doesn’t want that, right? Especially if you practice your meditation close to bedtime, it can help to abate any stress and anxiety that you felt over the course of the day and create a hush among the dizzying voices inside your head, which are often to blame if you have trouble both falling and staying asleep.
There are so many benefits to practicing meditation, but meditation for sleep is among the most popular and widely sought.
In this article, we are going to look at two common meditation techniques, which are used by people all over the world and can easily be applied to your bedtime routine. The two techniques that I am referring to are mindfulness meditation and simple mantra meditation.
Mindfulness Sleep Meditation technique:
This type of meditation is alternatively known as insight meditation and it concentrates on the here and now, the present moment, without allowing any regretful thoughts about the past or worrisome thoughts about the future seep into your mind. This meditating for sleep technique is all about concentrating on what is going on around you and most important of all, what you are feeling in the present moment.
To begin the practice of mindfulness meditation, start by getting into a position that feels comfortable for you and closing your eyes. Pay attention to your breathing. Concentrate on slow, long, and deep breaths until you develop a relaxed breathing rhythm. Then, switch gears towards focusing on what is going on in your mind – the thoughts coming in and out of your head, how you feel, and any sensations occurring in your body.
The key to this technique is to act as a casual observer only. You do not want to assign any judgment to anything going on in your mind. And then as you get deeper and deeper into a meditative state, start clearing your mind of distracting and upsetting thoughts.
This is a good meditation for sleep technique because it enables you to clear your mind of potentially upsetting thoughts, so that you can feel more at peace and consequently fall asleep more quickly.
Simple Mantra Meditation sleep meditation:
With this technique, you direct your attention to a single task, usually the repetition of a word or syllable, such as om, peace, love, joy, etc. When you focus your mind on one specific task, you are able to significantly decrease the chances that your mind will become distracted or start to wander. If you are having trouble maintaining your focus on a single word though, it is sometimes beneficial to bring an object or image into the picture too, which you can either envision with your mind’s eye or actually look at the object or image.
Best Way sleep medatation
In the same way that mindfulness meditation can help you to sleep better, so can simple mantra meditation because it allows your mind to release its attention to distracting or upsetting thoughts that are preventing you from getting a good night’s sleep.
There are so many wonderful benefits that can be reaped from practicing meditation on a regular basis and meditation for sleep is absolutely one of them.
